Internal conflict can be more destructive than external opposition. In Nehemiah 5, the Jewish community faced a crisis not from outside enemies, but from exploitation and division within their own ranks. Wealthy Jews were charging interest to struggling families, forcing them to sell their children into slavery. Nehemiah responded with righteous anger, confronted the sin directly, and demanded full restoration. His approach teaches us that protecting what God is building requires addressing relationship cracks honestly, owning our part in conflicts, and pursuing genuine reconciliation that goes beyond mere apologies to include active restoration.
